Sino Germany Visualization Workshop

21 October 2018 in Berlin, Germany

The second China-German Workshop on Visualization aims at bringing together German and Chinese Researchers in the field of visualization. We want to strengthen existing collaborations and projects as well as foster new research ideas. The workshop will be a venue to present posters and discuss research with high-level professors of the field. The first workshop was held in Qingdao, and this year will be in Berlin, co-located with IEEE VIS 2018.

Kwan-Liu Ma UC Davis

Kwan-Liu Ma is a professor of computer science at the University of California-Davis, where he directs VIDI Labs and UC Davis Center of Excellence for Visualization. His research spans the fields of visualization, computer graphics, high-performance computing, and user interface design.

Hans-Christian Hege Zuse Institute Berlin

Hans-Christian Hege is head of the Visualization and Data Analysis Department at Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). He taught as a guest professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. His research interests include visual computing as well as applications in life sciences, natural sciences and engineering.


James D. Foley Georgia Institute of Technology

Foley is a professor in the College of Computing at Georgia Tech. He co-authored four computer graphics texts. He received ACM/SIGGRAPH's Lifetime Achievement Award for contributions to computer graphics in 1997 and ACM/SIGCHI’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. From 2001 to 2005 he was chair of the Computing Research Association - an organization of over 250 computer science and computer engineering university departments, professional societies and research labs.

Jean-Daniel Fekete INRIA

Jean-Daniel Fekete is Senior Research Scientist (DR1) at INRIA, Scientific Leader of the INRIA Project Team AVIZ that he founded in 2007.His main Research areas are Visual Analytics, Information Visualization and Human Computer Interaction. He published more than 150 articles in multiple conferences and journals, including the most prestigious in visualization and Human-Computer Interaction. He is the chair of the IEEE Information Visualization Conference Steering Committee.

Baoquan Chen Shandong University

Baoquan Chen is a Professor of Shandong University, where he is also the Dean of School of Computer Science and Technology. Prior to the current post, he was the founding director of the Visual Computing Research Center, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests generally lie in computer graphics, visualization, and human-computer interaction, focusing specifically on large-scale city modeling, simulation and visualization.

Oliver Deussen University of Konstanz

Prof. Deussen graduated at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and is professor at University of Konstanz (Germany) and visiting professor at SIAT (Chinese Academy of Science) Shenzhen. 2012-2015 he served as Co-Editor in Chief of Computer Graphics Forum, currently he is Vice-President of Eurographics Association. His areas of interest are modeling and rendering of complex biological systems, non-photorealistic rendering as well as Information Visualization.

Wei Chen Zhejiang University

Wei Chen is a professor in State Key Lab of CAD&CG at Zhejiang University, P.R.China.  He has published more than 30 IEEE/ACM Transactions and IEEE VIS papers. His current research interests include visualization, visual analytics and bio-medical image computing.

Xiaoru Yuan Peking University

Xiaoru Yuan is a tenured faculty member in the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science. He serviced as the vice director of Information Science Center, at Peking University. His primary research interests are in the field of scientific visualization, information visualization and visual analytics.

Shixia Liu Tsinghua University

Shixia Liu is an associate professor at Tsinghua University. Her research interests include visual text analytics, visual social analytics, visual behavior analytics, graph visualization, and tree visualization. Before joining Tsinghua University, she worked as a lead researcher at Microsoft Research Asia and a research staff member at IBM China Research Lab.

Jiawan Zhang Tianjin University

Jiawan Zhang, full professor, Vice Dean, school of computer software. Prof. Zhang is also the director of Visual Computing Lab, director of Data Science Institute, Tianjin University. Prof. Zhang is also now leading the Key Lab of Chinese Cultural Heritage Conservation and Promotion, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage. His research interests include visualization, computer graphics and e-heritage.

Wencheng Wang Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Wencheng Wang is now a professor and a deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Computer Science at ISCAS. His interests include scientific visualization, virtual reality, image editing and computational geometry, and with focus on fast rendering and object understanding.

Yingcai Wu Zhejiang University

Yingcai Wu is a National Youth-1000 scholar and a ZJU100 Young Professor at the State Key Lab of CAD & CG, Zhejiang University. His main research interests are in visual analytics, information visualization, and human-computer interaction, with focuses on urban computing, social media analysis, text visualization, and behavior analysis.

Nan Cao Tongji University

Nan Cao is a national 1000 young talent expert and a professor at TongJi University, China. He is the founder and the director of the Intelligent Big Data Visualization Lab. Before joining Tongji University, Nan Cao was a research staff member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center. His research interests are information visualization and visual analysis.

Lei Shi Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences

Lei Shi is an associate professor in the State Key Laboratory of Computer Science, Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His current research interests are Visual Analytics and Data Mining, with more than 70 papers published in top-tier venues, such as IEEE TVCG, TKDE, TC, VIS, ICDE, ICDM, Infocom, ACM Sigcomm and CSCW.

Yunhai Wang Shandong University

Yunhai Wang is an associate professor in School of Computer Science and Technology at Shandong University. His interests include scientific visualization, information visualization and 3d shape analysis, focusing specifically on automated data visualization.

Steffen Frey University of Stuttgart

Steffen Frey is a Postdoc in Thomas Ertl's lab at the Visualization Research Center of the University of Stuttgart. His research primarily focuses on performance-related aspects in scientific visualization. He has made research contributions in situ visualization, (dynamic) parameter tuning and performance prediction, the analysis of time-dependent data, and image-based visualization.

Liang Zhou University of Stuttgart

Liang Zhou is a postdoc researcher at the Visualization Research Center (VISUS) of the University of Stuttgart, Germany. He received his PhD degree in computing from the University of Utah in 2014. His research interests include scientific and information visualization, and visual analytics.

Alexandra Diehl University of Konstanz

Alexandra Diehl is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Konstanz, Germany. Her main research interests are Visual Analytics, Earth Sciences, and Natural Phenomena. She is a lecturer at the University of Konstanz in the courses Geographic Information Systems and Information Visualization 1.

Jiazhi Xia Central South University

Dr. Jiazhi Xia is an associate professor in School of Information Science and Engineering at Central South University, P.R. China. Dr. Xia's research interests include Visual Analytics, Geometry Modeling, and Human-Computer Interaction. He has published over 20 papers in journals and conferences, including TVCG, TCSVT, CAD, ACM MM, and ACM SIGCHI.

Ying Zhao Central South University

Ying Zhao is an associate professor at the School of Information Science and Engineering, Central South University. His main research interests include cyber security visualization and industrial data visualization. He is the co-chair of ChinaVis Data Challenge 2015-2017.

Guodao Sun Zhejiang University

Guodao Sun is an assistant professor at College of Information Engineering, Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou, China. His main research interest lies on urban visualization and visual analytics of social media, with publications in visualization journals and conferences.

Chongke Bi Tianjin University

Chongke Bi, received the B.Sc. (Eng.) degree and the M.Sc. (Eng.) degree from Shandong University, China, in 2004 and 2007, respectively, and the Ph.D. (Sci.) degree from the University of Tokyo, Japan, in 2012. After that, as a researcher in RIKEN, Japan, he was focus on the research in the field of visual analysis of big data on supercomputer from 2012 to 2016. He is currently in Tianjin University. His current research interests include big data, visualization, image processing, and computer graphics.

Jochen Görtler University of Konstanz

JOchen Görtler obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degree at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, where he focused on visualization and machine learning for computer-assisted surgery systems. He is researching methods that can handle various forms of uncertainty within information visualization and visual computing.

Zhexiao Guo University of Konstanz

Zhexiao Guo received the M. Sc. from Department of Biomedical Engineering, Shenzhen University, China. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Computer Science and Information, University of Konstanz, Germany. His research interests include machine learning, computer graphics and computer vision.
